![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Since we've been debating this, you can be the first to know that upon re-reading BGK #32, I'd be crazy not to include it. I've already adjusted my dummy book, bookmap, worksheet and digital file request. Unfortunately, I don't see a way to fit in Batman #604, which should have been collected as the opening to Vol. 2. Some of the "lost" annuals and even facsimiles we've produced over the last few years can be seen as Archive samplers. We have one such planned for later this year. An actual trade compilation of random stuff would never sell well enough to justify producing it. "Dead Reckoning" has been mentioned but no plans yet. If the Aquaman Archives continue, we're going to go forward. The odds of us stepping back and doing a random 1950s volume are small. When I mentioned flip flopping Archives on the schedule, I meant two already approved projects got swapped on the schedule. When Batman: Black & White 2 sells out in hardcover, we'll schedule the softcover. Any more movement on the John Byrne Superman run? Well, I got an e-mail from John this morning... Batman: Contagion will have a new cover when it comes out in May. Contents remain unchanged. Bluedevil2002, if you've been following this thread, I addressed the physical constraints of running the covers small or full-sized. We print our books in 16-page increments known as signatures. If the total page count of a compilation, with full-sized covers fits within a multiple of 16 we will gladly run the covers full-size. If not, we have to make choices and sometimes that means running reduced sized covers. Mr. Newton, I would hope my request for dropping a line of discussion would be honored rather than questioned. As to your other points, no such plans for a YOUNG JUSTICE final trade since it has none of the buzz the SUPERGIRL story has. And the notion of sprinkling POWER COMPANY one-shots throughout other trades makes no commercial sense to me. Sorry, but we have no plans for any reprinting of POWER COMPANY. 20th Century-Fox TV has home video rights to the Batman TV series so if you want them on DVD, tell 20th's home video division. I'd be one to buy a box set. The war stuff has done all right, but not enough for us to schedule anything more as of today. And again, no Firestorm plans. Teisot, you've read our mind. We intend to re-release both JL trades during the run of the new JL mini-series. Yes, there will be another BATGIRL trade this year. Kelley's departure will not change that. JUST IMAGINE vol. 2 is on schedule and I have a gorgeous Stuart Immonen cover for it already on my bulletin board. Given the larger Batman Family and the constantly crossing over of storylines from one title to another, we benefit from having a larger tapestry to tell our stories. The downside is that it prevents us from collecting everything from every Bat-title in sequence. Amazing, Peter Parker and Tangled Web do not crossover or even reference one another, keeping them cleaner for collection which is just as valid an editorial direction. You, however, cannot compare programs given the different editorial goals. The Flash/Superman races might make for a fun collection, we'll have to see. ------------------ IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() quote: This question came up a few months ago in an online chat with Peter Staddon of Fox Home Video. The chat was conducted on December 2, 2002. A complete transcript is available at http://www.thedigitalbits.com/articles/120202htfchat.html Here's what he said about the possibility of releasing the 60's Batman series on DVD: "Batman is held up in all sorts of legal / rights issues. I'd love to be able to release it but it just can't happen yet." Jim IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Do Piranha Press, Vertigo, et al. fall within the scope of the Archive office?? I think Mr. Greenberger has commented on the Sandman (by Neil Gaiman) hardcovers before, so I guess Vertigo does. How about the other "affiliated/alternative" imprints. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Hey Rob, as always thanks in advance * Any chance that DC will produce digests in the near future? * In your opinion, how have sales been recntly on the last few archives? * I understand that there is to be a HC Batman reprinting some work coming out soon with over 300 pages of work. Any plans for this trend to continue? By trend I mean using foreign work. * Any pland to have Kubert work on any new material other than SGT Rock? * With Kubert revisiting Rock for you guys, has any thought been give to having Eisner revisist Spirit? Or any other creator very associated with a character coming back for a stint Thanks IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() quote: You know, I'm a little puzzled by the inclusion of BATGIRL # 33 in the proposed third volume of FUGITIVE. Yes, it has Cain in it, but the context of the story is more relevant to the ongoing BATGIRL series--he is her father--than the aftermath of FUGITIVE. (Also, the premise for the story, her looking into a killer named Alpha, continues in the regular series.) Since it seems BATGIRL TPBs are continuing for the time being, I would think it wise to save that issue for when it comes up in the regular series. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Rob, How well did the Just Imagine Line do? Any plans to allow any other creators do a similar project? Also, other than New Teen Titans, have you given any serious consideration to archiving any Bronze age material. Just curious, to the extent you can comment, please do. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I'm actually glad to hear about "Just Imagine" vol. 2 coming out eventually. I have volume 1, but I was waiting for volume 2 so I could read them all at once. Seriously... IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() As having suggested this many a time myself... The Superman/Flash races that we need collected could be: Superman (first series) 199 (1st race) And, throw in either Adventures of Superman 463 (first Superman/Flash III race) and/or Superman (first series) 220 (Clark and Barry switch identities - a mildly good Superman/Flash story...) Also, I know there was a giant sized collection from the 1970s that reprinted the first Superman and Flash issues (the cover of which would make a nice back cover or additional page for such a collection...) Incredibly good taste of schatzie to have mentioned this! It's a nice way to dip into both Silver Age Flash AND Silver Age Superman (and yet could also serve modern purposes...well, at least that of us modern folks that want these great tales!) Putting the two JLI books back into print! Okay (maybe more?) IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() quote: By "sampler" do you mean a sampler for the public to increase awarness of Archives already in print or a sampler for DC to test the waters for possible future Archives? Th quote: Darn, I really enjoyed Enemy Ace and Blackhawk (I haven't tried Sgt. Rock yet).
quote: I'm sorry if you already answered this question. I must have missed it. And again, darn.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Bob, do you include Blackhawk as one of the war titles? If not, has it done well enough for a second volume to be a reasonable expectation soon? IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Has DC ever thought about collecting any of the pre-Alan Moore issues of Saga of the Swamp Thing? There's some great art by Steve Bissette and Tom Yeates, and these first 19 issues introduce many of the elements used so well by Moore later on--the drowned vampires, the Sunderland Corp., Matt Cable's downward spiral and more. I hear that the new printing of Dark Genesis is supposed to reflect the trade dress of the Moore volumes--adding the Pasko issues, even though they're not exactly "hot" comics, would help new readers immensely and put Moore's revisions in better context. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() While we're on the subject, the Nestor Redondo issues really weren't bad... IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() quote: To fill out the volume, I'd also include Action Comics #441, with a short main feature of Superman and Barry vs. the Weather Wizard--I always liked the cover, with Supes walloping an unsuspecting Flash. Action #424, with Superman vs. Gorilla Grodd, should get an honorable mention as well. Cole IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() quote: I take it these are the issues of the original Swamp Thing after Wrightson left? While I've never read them, I'd heard that they were problematic for Moore's stories because they actually have Swampy turning back into Alec Holland at one point, and that they were considered apocryphal for that reason. IMO, this is no reason not to reprint good old comics, of course--just that DC would be less likely to exhume them. Issues 1-19 of Saga don't pose any continuity problems, as far as I can recall. ![]() ![]() ![]() I know I'm beating a dead horse here but the anthology idea doesn't have to be TPB sized. And those Superman/Flash races would make for great lead stories to attract buyers. Although I'd like 100 pagers, even 48 or 64 pagers in Prestige Format would be cool. You can fit quite a few short stories in there! IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() The credits for the original run of Swamp Thing break down like this: Wein/Wrightson 1 - 10 I enjoyed Redondo's Swampie just as much as Wrightson's. Yes Redondo's swamp scenes were almost too pretty, while Bernie could really do some grotesque "Ghastly" Ingels art, but Wrightson always seemed to be chasing the deadline--possibly resulting in some last minute assists from friends. While Nestor, amazingly, met all his deadlines and rendered intensely inked detailed scenes. It's really the last two issues of the series (23 & 24) that stray furthest from the concept and thus were quite laughable, then as now. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Bob: quote: Have you seen the sales figures for Power Company at the moment - they seem to be slipping towards cancellation. That's why I suggested placing the 1-shots in other TPB's - to boost sales for the book. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() the early Martian Manhunters from Detective is a dream archive of mine. Also, I would still love to see archives of these favorite characters of mine: Bat Lash Hawk and Dove Creeper all from the 60s I am looking forward to the end of the All Star Archives, another fav. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Maybe Power Company's sales are going down because it sucks. Why place stories that suck in other stories? It would only make look that much worse. I vote "no" to placing "advertisement stories" in to collected editions. If I want to try something else, I will. While the war "trifecta" is on hold and the Sci-Fi trifecta is iffy (I have a difficult time seeing a trifecta anyway), might I suggest another trifecta, namely a magic/mystical trifect of Dr. Fate, Phantom Stranger and damn ....as I was typing this it went right out of my head. Is that old age? D. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() DStepp: quote: That was rude. Trying to raise sales for a book that's on the way to being cancelled by placing parts of the book in a TPB for a different comic and then being told that the book sucks isn't helpful IMO. IP: Logged |
